If you’re struggling with emotional difficulties like anxiety or low mood and think you need support, you can seek help from our registered counsellor. The Counselling Unit at UM-Wales is a free confidential service available to foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University. Counsellors are trained in human behaviour and understand the importance of confidentiality.

- If you are currently struggling with a mental health crisis (e.g. intense suicidal ideation and/or attempt), head directly to your nearest government hospital emergency department, or call 999 – in that case, an ambulance will be dispatched to your location and you will be sent to the relevant emergency department.
Peer Helpers Group
UM-Wales Peer Helpers are students who have been selected and trained to support the work of the Counselling Unit. We aim to provide a positive, encouraging community that supports the academic and personal development of students in UM-Wales.
Our main services:
- Assisting new students to adapt to university life
- Provide a listening ear and emotional support to fellow students in times of need.
- Organise various events on mental health awareness
