AI Training & Seminar Programs for Orang Asli Communities in Malaysia

Introduction

This initiative, organised by UM-Wales in partnership with the Institute for Data Innovation and Artificial Intelligence (IDEA-AI), Australia, aims to empower Orang Asli communities through accessible and practical Artificial Intelligence (AI) education.  

Our initiative is dedicated to bringing practical, accessible, and meaningful AI education directly to Orang Asli communities across Malaysia. Through a series of training sessions and seminars, we aim to strengthen digital literacy, support local innovation, and open new pathways in education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable community development.  

These programmes are designed to help participants learn, explore, and grow by understanding how AI can be used in everyday life—whether for improving livelihoods, enhancing creativity, safeguarding families online, or preserving culture and language.  

Objectives
  • To empower Orang Asli communities with knowledge and practical understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • To enhance digital literacy, promote innovation in local livelihoods, and prepare communities for future opportunities in education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development through responsible use of AI.

Key Programmes  
  • AI Training Programs (1-2 days)
    Hands-on training sessions that equip Orang Asli participants with practical AI and digital skills for daily life, community development, creativity, online safety, small business, and education.
  • AI Seminar Programs (2-4 hours)
    Short, focused seminars that introduce the basics of AI and highlight its potential in preserving culture, enriching education, and creating new opportunities for Orang Asli communities.
AI Training Programs

These hands-on training programmes provide Orang Asli communities with practical AI and digital skills for everyday life. Focused on real-world application, the sessions build digital readiness, creativity, online safety, and community innovation, empowering participants to use AI confidently within their families, livelihoods, and local development.

1 Introduction to Artificial Intelligence for Everyday Life 1 day A simple, hands-on introduction to what AI is and how it helps in daily life.
2 Digital Skills for Smart Villages 1 day Basic digital literacy leading to simple AI understanding and practice.
3 AI for Sustainable Livelihood and Community Development 1 day Focus on how AI can support agriculture, handicrafts, and eco-tourism in Orang Asli villages.
4 Generative AI for Creativity and Storytelling 1 day Learn how to use tools like ChatGPT and image generators to create stories, songs, and posters in native culture.
5 AI and Digital Safety for Families 1 day Understand how to use AI safely and protect family privacy online.
6 AI Tools for Small Business and Entrepreneurship 2 days Explore AI apps for marketing, customer service, and small business management.
7 AI for Education: Learning with ChatGPT and Other Tools 1 day Teaching youth to use AI for learning assistance.
Seminar Programme

Our seminar program offers focused, easy-to-understand introductions to the role of AI in everyday life. These sessions showcase how AI can preserve culture, broaden educational access, and create new opportunities for youth and families, while inspiring communities to prepare for the future of work and a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
