The Right Choice | When Choosing the Right Foundation Course Pays Off

Choosing the right Foundation programme can have an immensely positive effect on your entire career direction.

Take Foundation graduate Aisyah, for example. Aisyah started her one-year Foundation in Arts at IUMW before continuing on for another 3 years to complete a degree in Psychology. She is now a Talent & Organisational Development Associate Intern at Digi Telecommunications; was selected for the Nestlé YOUth Influencer Programme; and is a Co-Founder of the International Welfare, Economics, and Leadership Dialogue (I-WELD). Talk about achievements. Her Foundation programme at IUMW is where it all began.

“IUMW gave me opportunities to explore and develop myself personally and professionally. It all started during my year studying Foundation in Arts when we had to plan events and projects for many of our subjects. That sparked my interest to explore more opportunities at IUMW, which led to me running for the Student Council in 2019.”

The Student Council was an experience that Aysiah says really opened her eyes to the professional industry. She was exposed to many challenges and opportunities which helped her and the team to grow individually and as a unit.

“My positions in the Student Council and as Co-Founder of I-WELD really extended my connections with students and industry players. I’m more confident in communicating and have learnt the importance of self-branding. I’ve also learned that as a leader, I must make sure that my team and I are on the same page, physically and mentally healthy, so we produce better results!”

Having already achieved so much throughout her university years, Asyiah has big goals for her future.

“My end goal in life is to build a foundation to help the needy, both humans and animals. Whatever my plans are for the future, I will always be guided with my end goal in mind. My advice if you have something you’d want to pursue is to just go for it — a chance to try something new or embark on their desired industry is a good win! You never know what you’re capable of unless you throw yourself into unfamiliar situations.”
