I've won multiple awards from the Malaysia Invention and Innovation Expo, the Virtual Innovation Competition, and it’s all because of IUMW!
Working as a Research Assistant
After graduating from the International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW) in November 2021 with a Bachelor’ in Biotechnology, I started my career as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). I have also been appointed as an Editorial Member of the Biomedical and Biotechnology Research Journal (BBRJ). I put this down to the strong foundation of skills and knowledge I gained from the Biotechnology programme at IUMW.
Competition Awards Won Using My Final Year Project
While working at USM, I participated in the Malaysia Invention and Innovation Expo (MIIX) 2022. The entry I submitted was derived from the content of my final year project IUMW, supervised by IUMW Lecturer Dr Abdul Rahim bin Abdul Rachman. Dr Rahim had previously encouraged me to enter the project into Virtual Innovation Competition (VIC2021), where I won 3 awards.
Entering the project into MIIX 2022, I was also guided by my USM supervisor, Dr Noor Fatmawati Binti Mokhtar.
I created an animation video entitled “Novel GSTP1 Inhibitors to Reverse Chemoresistance Among Cancer Patients”. I won 2 awards at the competition; a Gold Medal and a special award in the Best Booth for Junior Innovator category.
Behind My Success
Behind this success, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Dr Abdul Rahim at IUMW for the continuous guidance and opportunities he has given me, and also to all other IUMW lecturers who have directly or indirectly taught and supported me since the beginning. I am grateful to be one of IUMW’s full scholarship recipients, which allowed me to focus on my studies without worrying about tuition fees or financial issues.
Biotechnology At IUMW
I sincerely recommend SPM leavers or pre-universities students who are interested in the biotechnology field to pursue their Bachelor’s in Biotechnology at IUMW.
The course has high-quality curriculum modules, plus the opportunity to enter Universiti Malaya (UM) for practical lab sessions. This gave me a strong foundation of knowledge and research skills for my future career.
The four years I studied at IUMW were one of my greatest life experiences. I learned from dedicated, inspiring and friendly lecturers who are always willing to share their knowledge, and I was able to learn in a conducive environment with friends from various backgrounds.
